ISL is seeking an outstanding first or second-year law student to serve as a Summer Law Clerk. The position may become part-time for the remainder of 2023. Successful candidates will exhibit an inherent intellectual and technical curiosity along with a strong commitment to excellence and desire to succeed. We are seeking well-rounded, personable team players who can also self-start, demonstrate initiative, and work independently.

You will have the opportunity to work on challenging and sophisticated matters with Officers, senior managers, and key employees of the Corporation. You will work with ISL’s General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Assistant Secretary and assist them with wide range of issues relating to national security, energy independence, space, and risk management and their intersection with the complicated legal system that govern them and the business of a sophisticated corporation. You will have the opportunity to learn and understand corporate, intellectual property, contracts and government contracts, export and trade, merger and acquisition, and securities law; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); corporate governance; records management; corporate ethics; and compliance program implementation and management.
Qualifications
- Rising 1L or 2L student at an ABA-approved law school.
- Demonstrated intellectual and technical curiosity, even if not graduate of a STEM program; quick learner.
- Work experience, especially military, is highly valued.
- Any candidate selected for employment at ISL must be able to obtain and maintain a national-security clearance during the entire tenure of their employment with the Corporation. The need for a clearance will depend on the projects to which you may be assigned.

- Undertake legal research, analysis, reasoning, and writing, including integration and synthesis of facts and law, to reach legally sound decisions.
- Work efficiently and quickly; be responsive to clients; manage multiple work assignments and competing priorities concurrently.
- Communicate well and fit into an office environment consisting of professionals, (engineers, accountants, and lawyers.
- Work independently, exercise initiative, and self-start; at the same time, work collaboratively as part of a team in a demanding environment.
